Several Chaplains in our state have submitted requests for information on blue light laws. While it is your first priority to know the policy within your own municipality and department and abide by it, here is the link to the Illinois Department of Motor Vehicles code on this topic and a PDF the same. Go down to Sec. 12-215 and read paragraph (c).
Additionally, all of us need to be aware and proactive about safety in our response. If you don't get to the incident safely, you can't help anyone. The following links are related to seat belt use and responding in a POV, a scenario which presents risk for firefighters and chaplains alike.
